The Project
MicroBlogBuzz is a privately held Montreal venture based on the original idea of Tommy Lacroix. The project received no funding until now.
The Idea
While experimenting the different micro-blogging platforms public APIs, and being fans of Digg, we started to wonder what the most shared links were. We started collecting data – a lot of data! – and analyzing it. As the results were pretty interesting, we decided to build the MicroBlogBuzz web site to share them with the community.
The Data Sources
All the micro-blog posts on this site are loaded from external micro-blogging platforms.
- Twitter tweets are accessed via the Twitter Public Timeline API, and the Twitter Search API.
- Jaiku posts are accessed via the Jaiku public feed.
- Identi.ca posts are accessed via the Identica public feed.
- Delicious tags are loaded via the Delicious API.
- Links are shortened using the is.gd API, and a dirty tinyurl.com hack.
Without the effort of these companies who let the community access their data, this site could not exist. Kudos to them.
What's Next!?
We are always working on new ways to filter, aggregate and present our data. That said, we’re always open to new ideas, so feel free to share.
